An El Paso beauty studio helped the University of Texas at El Paso's football players take part in some self-care so they can have success profiting off their name, image and likeness.

Before the grind of this season kicks into high gear, some players traded in their pads for something a little different.

"We invited the UTEP football players to come in so that way they get a chance to feel pampered," said Sabria Burge, Owner of OMG Beauty Studio. "To feel what you know, normally what men try to shy away from which is pampering themselves."

Burge opened the studio just nine months ago, hoping to help elevate the beauty options for El Pasoans. They now teach classes and give their students a professional setting to hone their craft before graduating and hitting the workforce.

It's Burge's hope that after seeing some football players getting pampered, other men will spend time for themselves as well.

“The boys are getting facials right now, I’m getting a facial and I'm getting my mani, pedi right now and it's my first one,” said senior linebacker and defensive end Jadrian Taylor. “So I'm kind of excited about that. But like [Burge] said, she just wanted to promote men's self-care.”

Burge says players need to think about how they look after themselves off the field.

“Promoting self-care is important, especially for athletes, because their business is an image as well,” said Burge. “So once they graduate, they're going to be high profile players, you know, so they have to take pride in their image, they have to look good, they have to feel good to play good.”

For a team that’s looking to prove something on the field, why not do it off the field too?

“Good opportunity for us. So not on my help in any business, of course. So it was like, easy for me to come do this,” said Taylor. “I already look good, but nothing wrong with looking better, you know what I mean?”
