CBP opens migrant processing facility in northeast El Paso

A new U.S. Customs and Border Protection facility with the capacity to hold 2,500 migrants opened in El Paso, according to a Tweet by El Paso Sector Border Patrol Chief Anthony Good Tuesday.

The 360,000-square-foot soft-sided processing facility sits on 28 acres in northeast El Paso.

The facility on Mesquite Hills off U.S. 54. operates 24 hours a day and has on-site contracted child care, food services, security and medical personnel.

The U.S.-Mexico border is experiencing a drop in migrant encounters post Title 42.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, unlawful entries between ports of entry along the border have decreased by more than 70% since May 11.
