A man accused of threatening a U.S. postal worker in east El Paso neighborhood appeared for his bond hearing.

Edgar Avila was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on Monday.

El Paso police and SWAT responded to the 12100 block of Royal Woods Drive.

Avila reportedly approached a postal worker as the worker placed mail in the community mailbox.

Avila stopped and said, "I found him, I found him," according to an assistant district attorney who cited Avila's arrest affidavit.

The prosecutor explained to the magistrate judge, Avila approached the postal worker with a knife.

The postal worker closed the door to their vehicle and called 911 in fear of his life, said the prosecutor.

"Get the [explicative] out," Avila said while pointing the knife at the postal worker.

The prosecution mentioned Avila had no prior relationship with the postal worker.

The bond reduction was denied for the safety of the victim, according to the judge.

Jail records showed Avila was booked into jail on May 8 and charged with criminal trespass.

Avila remained jail Wednesday on a $75,000 bond.
